HUGO — Pushmataha County businessman Derek Porter has announced that he will be a candidate for the District 19 State Representative position that encompases Choctaw and Pushmataha County. A lifelong Oklahoman, Porter owns Julian Lumber, Pushmataha County’s largest private employer.

OKLAHOMA CITY —After becoming the youngest State Representative in Oklahoma history in 1953, the guy who always wore the white hat, George Nigh, passed away last week at the age of 98 years. Nigh was born in McAlester on June 9, 1927 to Wilber and Irene Nigh, and he still holds the record for time served in the Governor’s office in Oklahoma, having served four times as Governor.

Oklahoma was among 12 states that competed in the 44th National 4-H Forestry Invitational from Sunday, July 20 through Wednesday, July 23. Oklahoma FCCLA took its largest delegation ever to the National Leadership Conference and returned with 19 national champions, a national officer and many other awards. Tennyson Elrod Spears, Wright City, was installed as national vice president of competitive events at the 80th Family, Career and Community Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., while Brandon Weibel, Silo FCCLA, wrapped up his year as national president.
