• Luxury resort and hotel is Choctaw Nation’s newest entertainment destination HOCHATOWN –– Choctaw Landing, a 100-bed resort and casino located in Hochatown, Oklahoma, is scheduled to open spring 2024. The resort will focus on the rich Choctaw culture and reflect the importance of nature and natural beauty of southeastern Oklahoma.

Hugo Band Student of the Week is Carissa McCombs. She is currently a freshman at Hugo High School. Carissa has been in band for three years, two of those years she has also been a member of color guard. She plays percussion in band and performs with color guard as well. What she said she likes most about band is her directors: Mr. Porter, Mr. Vietta and Mr. Wolfe, her coach Miss. Nicholas and the fun of being with everyone. When not performing, Carissa can be found doing community services projects with YAB. Carissa’s hobbies include creative writing and drawing flowers and stars.

The Hugo Band Student of the Week is Ethan Wesley. He is currently a sophomore at Hugo High School. He has been in band for five years and plays the trombone. Ethan said what he likes most about being in band are the food, the trips and all the shared experiences with his fellow band members and the band staff. When Ethan is not showing off his skills and talent playing his trombone, he is either on the football field with his teammates in power lifting or running track. Ethan’s hobbies include maintaining his garden, traveling, sleeping, cleaning, cooking, baking, babysitting and playing soccer.

Holiday shopping and gift-giving can often be challenging, but even more so when shopping for a person living with dementia. There are more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease. Depending on the stage of disease, some wellintentioned gifts may no longer be appropriate or practical for the person.

DURANT –– The 103rd Candlelighting Concert will be held on Monday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. in historic Montgomery Auditorium on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
