WILBURTON –– Dedicated to public education, school board members across the state are committed to providing every opportunity possible to students in their community. January is School Board Recognition Month, providing local schools and communities the chance to honor Oklahoma’s more than 2,700 elected school board members for their dedication and service.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma is kicking off the 2023 Girl Scout Cookie season January 21, as Girl Scouts and their troops rally their communities to support the world’s largest entrepreneurial program for girls.

Knowing your Oklahoma history can help pay for college. More than $770,000 in cash scholarships and tuition grants to Oklahoma universities and colleges is available to high school students across the state to help further their education.

NORMAN — Two students from Choctaw County were among more than 9,000 students at the University of Oklahoma who were recently named to distinguished honor rolls. Taryn Melia Joe, from Hugo, was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll.

That meant we kids got to talk with him for an entire hour –– both ways. Good-natured and chatty, he would entertain us as he drove. True stories, gigantic whoppers, or funny gossip, it was all fair game to that man.

Hugo Basketball Homecoming will be held Friday, Feb. 3. The games will be girls JV, boys JV, boys varsity, girls varsity. Homecoming coronation will be held at halftime of the boys game, but is subject to change. Hugo Senior Night will be held Feb. 13 against Okmulgee. The senior night ceremony will be held before the girls game.
