EOSC Meat Judging team wins Beef Empire Days contest

WILBURTON –– The Eastern Oklahoma State College meat judging team earned top honors at the Beef Empire Days contest, held at Tyson Fresh Meats in Holcomb, Kan., and Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan. Eastern claimed the first place overall team award to begin the fall season on a strong note.

Way to go Hugo Cheer for being named State Academic Champions for the second year in a row and also placing Runner-Up during the State Championship small co-ed competitive cheer competition for the first time in school history. Squad members, under the direction of Angie Citty, include: Brooklyn Brook, Kayla Freeman, Ja’Miya Johnson, Keira Kyles, Max Lozano, Keara Nelson, Kacie Reynolds, MaKatlynn Sanchez, Jayse Trantham, Allison Johnson, Sam Perez, Jamari Scroggins, Zaven Siniga, Kase Burton, Breona Cochnauer, Tayden McCarty, Paige Greer, Brooklyn Houser and Jakya Johnson.

Special election necessary for council position

HUGO –– A special election will be held to determine who will fill the open At-Large position on the Hugo City Council. Four names were suggested during last Tuesday’s meeting in hopes of filling the position –– John Wyrick, Chris Cannon, Tim Lemmons and Katrina Bills –– but an agreement couldn’t be reached.
