Choctaw County Extension Office, 415 E. Rena in Hugo, will be holding a program for people with diabetes and their families and caregivers. The instructor will be Kris Bailey. The classes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. each Monday in August, Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25. The program is open to anyone with pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes and/or their families. The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in Carthage, Texas, recently announced its top 30 finalists for the John Ritter Tribute Showcase — and two Hugo residents made the cut. Maddie Dawn Gatlin and Kristy Billy will compete for the 2025-2026 title and a $1,000 plus prize package, on Aug.

BUFF PARKER FIELD — There’s a buzz in the air out at Gene Nesbit Stadium on Hugo’s north side as new head football Coach Scott Schier works at a frenzied pace on a million details to get the field house, equipment and assistant coaches all calibrated to take the 2025 Hugo Buffaloes to the football playoffs. Coach Schier was selected by the Hugo Board of Education earlier this year to assume the Head Coach’s position as previous Coach Krystopher Gross resigned to accept a coaching position elsewhere.
