1840’s solar eclipse watch party to be held at Fort Towson

The Fort Towson Historic Site will host a solar eclipse watch party with a period encampment on Monday, April 8, from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The event costs $10 per person at the gate, with no charge for military or Oklahoma Historical Society members. Solar eclipse glasses will be available for purchase at the site while supplies last. Experts say eye burns are the most common injury during events like this.

Hugo Public School Libraries received a $5,000 check from the International Paper Foundation to help support the library reading program “Library Legends.” The grant was awarded to help furnish incentives, prizes and rewards in order to encourage students to read.

DOC later arrests female officer and charges her with sexual battery

LEXINGTON — Inappropriate sexual contact between a female correctional officer and an inmate at Lexington Assessment and Reception Center has resulted in her arrest. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General received a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) complaint on March 28 and immediately launched an investigation. The correctional officer was removed from her post at 9:25 a.m. to be interviewed and positively identified. She was formally terminated and arrested at 3:55 p.m. and then transported to the Cleveland County Detention Center.
