Chamber Director Welcome early spring to Hugo! We at the Chamber of Commerce are gearing up for the many different events that are going on in our community in the near future, we have many different things planned for our community members. Gearing up for the April 8 eclipse that can be seen from Hugo, the Chamber is hosting a Hugo Eclipse Festival on April 6.

Registration deadlines loom

Voters who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17.5 years old are eligible to apply for voter registration, however, you must be at least 18 years old to vote. Applications must be received by the Choctaw County Election Board or postmarked no later than midnight, March 8.
The Choctaw County Junior Livestock Show was held last week at the Hugo Ag barn, with dozens upon dozens of local students participating in show events such as beef, lamb, hog, goat, broiler, Ag mechanics, etc. Look for future editions of the Hugo News for results from the annual show.

OSU launches national campaign to spur growth in groundwater industry

Oklahoma State University, in collaboration with the Groundwater Foundation, has launched a national campaign to bring awareness to groundwater access, education and industry training. At the center of the campaign is a televised public service announcement and resource-filled website that illustrate both the vitality of clean water and how populations often take it for granted.

Lucas stands up for Oklahoma beef producers

OCA President Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) joined an effort to halt the Biden Administration’s rule allowing for the importation of fresh Paraguayan beef, which has historically been affected by the viral foot-and-mouth disease. The USDA’s most recent inspection of cattle in Paraguay was nearly a decade ago.
