State launches new school safety app

Better safety is coming to children in our state with the launch of the ProtectOK app for reporting school safety threats. Created by the State of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma School Security Institute, the app allows Oklahomans to easily and anonymously report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Hugo Band Student of the Week is Carissa McCombs. She is currently a freshman at Hugo High School. Carissa has been in band for three years, two of those years she has also been a member of color guard. She plays percussion in band and performs with color guard as well. What she said she likes most about band is her directors: Mr. Porter, Mr. Vietta and Mr. Wolfe, her coach Miss. Nicholas and the fun of being with everyone. When not performing, Carissa can be found doing community services projects with YAB. Carissa’s hobbies include creative writing and drawing flowers and stars.

Hugo, KTC nursing program lauded as one of best in state

Four Kiamichi Tech’s Licensed Practical Nursing programs have been ranked in the top 20 Oklahoma LPN program in Oklahoma for 2024. The programs and their respective rankings are Durant campus (third), Poteau campus (ninth), Hugo campus (11th), and McAlester campus (19th).
