HUGO — Hugo PD officers were called to the 800 block of West First Street late Monday evening after residents reported “shots fired” in that part of town. According to Hugo Chief of Police, John Mitchell, officers arriving on the scene shortly after the 11:42 call, found 34-year-old Phillip Jones deceased in the front yard.
The century-old Muddy Boggy Creek Bridge, north of Boswell, officially became part of a bygone era Nov. 15 when her replacement, Bridge 19, was introduced to the community via a ribboncutting ceremony.

The Hugo Buffaloes capped off a strong regular season with a 32-20 win over Hartshorne Friday night. Hugo moved to 7-3 (5-2) on the season, putting them behind Antlers and Eufaula in district rankings.
