New findings from the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation suggest the gut microbiome may impact wound healing and cartilage regrowth. The research from OMRF physician-scientist Matlock Jeffries, M.D., could lead to new treatment for skin wounds, severe injuries and posttraumatic arthritis, a form of osteoarthritis (OA) that develops after an injury or reconstructive surgery.

Medical marijuana’s impact on agriculture studied

Reps. Dick Lowe, R-Amber, Dell Kerbs, R-Shawnee and Carl Newton, R-Cherokee, held an interim study Monday and Tuesday at the state Capitol examining agriculture concerns arising from the growth of medical marijuana production throughout the state.

Community forestry grant applications available

Applications are being accepted for grants to help communities across the state improve their forests. Oklahoma Forestry Services, in conjunction with the US Forest Service and the Oklahoma Community Forestry Council, is accepting applications through Nov.

Choctaw Nation to offer infusion treatments to COVID-19 patients

The Choctaw Nation Health Care Center in Talihina, Okla., has begun treating patients infected with COVID-19 with the REGEN-COVTM infusion therapy. The treatment is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) similar to the three available COVID-19 vaccinations.
