After many years of neglecting his family, a hard-working successful salesman finally took his wife on a date. Unfortunately, very conscious of the time he was “wasting,” he frequently checked his watch. Fed up with his inattentiveness, she finally confronted him over dessert. His sheepishly distracted answer, “Um, I’m just checking what time it is,” earned her cold glare and this comment before she stormed away.

DURANT –– Eighty-five students representing 17 area schools were recognized as part of the Tri-Country Honors program this year. The students receive medals and certificates for their academic and leadership accomplishments.

DURANT –– Southeastern Oklahoma State University has announced plans to hold in-person commencement ceremonies on May 7-8-9. The ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF HUGO held a special luncheon last week, honoring first responders in the community. Those participating included: Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department, Hugo Police Department, Hugo Fire Department and Choctaw County Ambulance Authority. Pictured are the volunteers.

The Frisco Baptist Association Brotherhood meeting (men’s and boy’s fellowship time) will be held at 7 p.m. May 15 at Hugo Lake State Park. There will be special music by the men of Darwin Baptist Church and a message by Bro. Jamie Stevenson, pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Hugo. Bring your lawn chairs. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served. There will be door prizes. Follow signs to the gazebo.

Looks like the temperatures are going to soar to 83 on Saturday and 86 degrees by Sunday. There could be a thunderstorm Sunday or Monday, but most of the weekend is looking partly sunny and nice.
