Tim Loftin, of Hugo, was last week’s winner of the Hugo News Football Contest after choosing 15 out of 17 games correctly. Loftin guessed closest (471) to the OU Sooners’ total yardage (408) to edge out Lindy Loftin. Memorials for Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week at a speaking event at a college in Utah, are being held all over the world. Kirk was shot on Sept. 10 while hosting a college event for Turning Point USA, the organization he co-founded. Tyler James Robinson, 22 of Washington, Utah, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder among other felony offenses.

USDA to provide assistance to flood, wildfire-impacted livestock producers

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced eligible livestock producers will receive disaster recovery assistance through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program for 2023 and 2024 Flood and Wildfire (ELRP 2023 and 2024 FW) to help offset increased supplemental feed costs due to a qualifying flood or qualifying wildfire in calendar years 2023 and 2024.

‘Walk with ease’ class being held

Choctaw County OSU Extension will be hosting a “Walk With Ease” class on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the Elephant Walking Trail in Hugo from 9:30-11 a.m. Classes will begin on Sept. 22 and end on Oct. 30.
