Hamills celebrate 50th anniversary

BOBBY AND BEVERLY HAMILL recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple, who met as children and grew up on the same street, were married on Feb. 20, 1971 in Balch Springs, Texas. Together they have four children, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

OMRF seeks volunteers for anti-aging study

The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is recruiting healthy volunteers to study whether a diabetes drug can slow aging. OMRF scientist Benjamin Miller, Ph.D., is investigating how metformin impacts insulin sensitivity and its link to the biological processes of aging.

A young couple was deeply involved in the timeless dance of married couples since the first union, and I am not referring to sex. This was the dance of war. Each had taken a rigid, angry stance on opposite sides of their ballroom. In fact, the battle for this championship had escalated to the point that, no matter what one said, the other was definitely going to disagree. No compromise, take no prisoners. Victory at any cost.

The Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce held its monthly board meeting on Friday, Feb. 5 at Awesome Adventures. The agenda was kept short so board members had time to tour the facility. The minutes of the January meeting and Chamber financials were approved. In new business, the board voted to begin honoring a Business of the Month and selected Awesome Adventures as the Business of the Month for February. President-Elect Lena Kopp announced to the board that the Chamber’s PPP Grant in the amount of $10,200 has been approved.

“We Serve” is the motto of Lions Club International. Hugo Lions Club members find great joy in serving their community. At the most recent meeting, Coach Brandon Debo spoke about the Hugo High School Baseball program and their upcoming trip to Alabama during spring break. Lions Club members were happy to help with this project.

‘Renie’s first motorcycle wheelie’

When Renie was a young teenager, she worshiped her older brother. Willing to do anything to get his attention, she would follow him around endlessly, much to his irritation. The year he moved away after graduating high school left her impatiently waiting for his infrequent visits back home. On one such visit, he returned proudly riding his brand-new motorcycle.
