Hugo man arrested on complaints of soliciting a minor

HUGO –– Hugo Police responded to a call regarding solicitation of a sexual act to a minor on May 31. According to official reports, the victim was offered a ride home by her boyfriend’s stepfather, Denyell Murphy, when he began soliciting sexual acts. Reports state the victim then told her mother, who called the police. Murphy, 48, was located at Sunhaven and placed under arrest for a full extradition warrant out of Arkansas. He was booked into Choctaw County Jail on complaints of soliciting sex to a minor.

One-time appropriation gives FFA Leadership Camp a new lease

OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislation funding much-needed renovations of the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Leadership Camp, located near Wagoner, has been signed into law. House Bill 2927 grants a one-time $9.5 million appropriation to improve housing options at the camp and purchase maintenance equipment for the buildings and grounds.

HUGO –– The Hugo city council approved agreements with two local centers during last week’s meeting. An annual agreement with the Washington Community Center in the amount of $800 per month and the Feed the Need (13th Place Nutrition Center) in the amount of $12,098.76 were both approved upon a motion by councilman Josh Armes.

Hugo’s annual Juneteenth

Celebration will be held Saturday, June 15. Line up for the parade will be held at 5 p.m. at the Hugo football stadium. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and end at Cora Lee Park, where an opening ceremony will begin. There will be food, bounce houses, fireworks, games and cash prizes. Vendors are welcome.
