Hugo council approves pending contracts

HUGO –– With two absent during last Tuesday’s Hugo city council meeting, Councilors Darren Frazier, Corby Johnson and Juanita Latimore took action on a few pressing issues. After months of negotiations, 2022-2023 fiscal year contracts with the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) were approved as presented upon a motion by Latimore.

Celebrating resident’s rights

October is Residents’ Rights Month, an annual event designated by Consumer Voice to honor residents living in all long-term care facilities and those receiving care in their home or community. It is an opportunity to focus on and celebrate the dignity and rights of every individual receiving long-term services and supports, and to support long-term care ombudsmen, citizen advocates, facility staff and family members who work to promote and support residents’ rights.

OMRF adds new principal researcher

The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation has named Elizabeth Finn, Ph.D., as an assistant member in the Cell Cycle and Cancer Biology Research Program. She joins OMRF from the National Cancer Institute, a part of the National Institutes of Health, where she completed a postdoctoral fellowship.

Choctaw nation to observe ‘voter registration and voter education week’ across the Choctaw Reservation

DURANT –– Chief Gary Batton of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) proclaimed this week “CNO Voter Registration & Voter Education Week” across the Choctaw Reservation. During this week, Chief Batton encourages all tribal members, associates and eligible voters across the state to register before the Oct. 14 deadline to vote in Oklahoma’s November General Election.
