The 89th annual Boswell Homecoming was held last weekend with activities for all ages, including its rodeo Friday and Saturday nights. The rodeo featured $20,000 added money for winners, as well as Cactus saddles for the All-Around and Tres Rios buckles for event winners. Parade results weren’t available at press time.

Poultry litter pollution remains high in Illinois River Watershed, judge rules

A federal district judge ruled recently that the State of Oklahoma has sufficiently proven there has not been any substantive change in poultry litter pollution of the Illinois River Watershed (IRW) following trial. The ruling by Oklahoma Northern District Judge Gregory Frizzell included the finding that phosphorus from poultry waste continues to be a significant source of damage to the waters of the IRW and Lake Tenkiller.

Hugo city councilors met in regular session on June 17 to discuss several individuals for possible employment as interim city manager. After a lengthy executive session, councilwoman Robbie Ridenour made a motion to appoint Richard Higginbotham as interim city manager.

Last Tuesday, June 17, the Choctaw Nation gathered with Chief Gary Batton, Assistant Chief Jack Austin, Jr., James Grimsley and numerous other Tribal dignitaries and councilors, along with representatives of the Federal Aviation Admiinistration (FAA), for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially mark the new opening of an 8,324 square-foot Aviation Technology Center.
