OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell is hosting the 37th Annual Lt. Governor’s Turkey Hunt this week. This event showcases Oklahoma communities to prospective out-of-state companies and site selection representatives. The seven communities participating this year are Alva, Ardmore, Duncan, Elk City, Hugo, Okemah, and Woodward.

Hugo Lake offers excellent hunting opportunities with more than 25,000 acres of land available to the hunter. Bow hunting is permitted in and around most of the park areas. Kiamichi Park contains an archery practice range and is now a 3,000-acre Quality Deer Management Area. This makes Hugo Lake a “one of a kind” area, where quality archery hunting is available within walking distance of Class-A camping.

Kiamichi Conservation District to provide cost-share assistance

The Kiamichi Conservation District has announced that funds are available for costshare assistance on selected conservation practices benefiting conservation. The state of Oklahoma has provided limited funds to our conservation district to help landowners implement measures that will help conservation.

As we approach the season when soil temperature and photoperiod are priming warm season grasses to grow, it is important to assess damage to drought stressed pastures and manage accordingly. Following drought, stand damage is readily apparent even on well-managed pastures.

ACE hosts Iris Garden Club meeting

The Iris Garden Club met on March 24 at ACE Hardware in downtown Hugo. For several years, ACE has graciously hosted the club’s annual open meeting. Guests entered and signed the sheet, which was used for the many door prizes.
