Gwendolyn Sue Bourns
A celebration of life for Gwendolyn Sue Bourns, affectionately known as Gwen, a cherished member of the Edmond community and a beacon of generosity and warmth, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2025 at Baggerly Funeral Home in Edmond. Gwen was born and raised in Hugo, Okla., on June 28, 1934. She was the proud daughter of C.C. Golden and Mary “Ellis” Golden. Her journey through life’s chapters came to a peaceful close on Oct. 22, 2025, in Edmond, Okla.
Gwen’s early years were marked by the military service of her husband, instilling in her a sense of resilience, responsibility and adaptability that would define her character. She was a loving sister to her siblings, and though she bid farewell to her parents, her beloved husband of 41 years, Bryan B. Bourns, and her sister, Ruth Arnett before her own departure, her spirit of family devotion never wavered.
Gwen’s legacy is carried on through her two sons: Pete Bourns of Edmond, and Kim Bourns also from Edmond; her daughter, Michele Beffer of Houston, Texas; her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and greatgreat-grandchild; her sister, Wanda Stevenson of Hugo; and her brother, John Golden. In 1973, Gwen and her husband Bryan laid down roots in Edmond, Okla. She started as a Vault Teller and Commercial Teller for 13 years at Republic Bank. In 1987, Gwen started her career with Walmart as a Cashier Supervisor, a role she held with distinction. She was always ready to lend an ear or even a slice of her famous homemade pies.
Memories can be shared and services of remembrance will be held in her honor, under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home.
