Funeral services for Minnie “Marvene” Starnes, of Valliant, Okla., were held Friday, April 18, 2025 at Valliant Church of God. Minnie passed away April 15, 2025, at the age of 89.

Minnie “Marvene” (Baird) Starnes was born on Jan. 26, 1936 in Trinidad, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Augustus and Carmeta Aleta (Hickson) Baird. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Ray “Blackie” Starnes; son, Jackie Ray Starnes; a grandson; brother, Charles Eugene Baird and sisters: Wanda Ruth Gilbert and Jannette Green.

Marvene was born and raised in Texas. She married her beloved late husband, Donald Ray “Blackie” Starnes on July 6, 1954. Marvene worked as a bookkeeper for the Sears Roebuck Company and then went on to run the Credit Bureau in Monahans, Texas. She and her husband retired to Valliant in the early 1990s. Marvene then became the church clerk for the Valliant Church of God. Church meant very much to Marvene and her faith was constantly on display. She was known to help anyone in need and truly had a soft spot for those down on their luck. Marvene was a very loving wife and mother and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marvene is survived by her son, Mike Starnes and wife of Howe, Okla.; daughter, Patricia Anne Wright of Valliant; a grandson, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Cottonwood Cemetery in Bryson, Texas, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
