Nellie Jean Peebles Setzer

Funeral services for Nellie Jean Peebles Setzer were held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home.

Nellie Jean Peebles Setzer, of Lawton, Okla., passed away Dec. 29, 2025 at the age of 82. Nellie Jean, or just Jean, as she preferred, was born in McAlester, Okla., on April 2, 1943 to Elva “Dink” Peebles and Gladys Irene Davis Peebles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Donald Setzer.

Jean grew up in the town of Fort Towson, Okla., and attended Fort Towson Schools where she made lifetime friendships that are still strong today. She looked forward to attending the Fort Towson Homecoming every year. Jean adored being around people and attending her family reunions.

Jean was very business savvy; she completed a bookkeeping course which she put to use partnering with her husband to build the successful business of Setzer Sales and Service. Jean was a cancer survivor, and she fought with remarkable strength. She loved basketball, softball (especially OU softball) and going to the casino on Mondays for the hamburgers and games.

Jean is survived by her children: Jimmy Darrel Setzer, and Donald Wayne Setzer; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Elvie Jo “Sissy” Peebles Logan, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Valliant Cemetery, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
