Rebecca “Beckie” Louise (Loper) Mackey
Rebecca “Beckie” Louise (Loper) Mackey, of Powderly, Texas, was born on Nov. 28, 1953 in Chatom, Ala., the daughter of Hardie Loper and Ada Mae (Ezell) Loper. She passed away May 1, 2026, at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvel Edgar Mackey, Jr.; son, Donald Duane “Melon” Scaff; brother, David Loper and sisters: Betty Powell and Elizabeth Eubanks.
Beckie grew up in rural Alabama in a family of seven children, chasing after her big brothers and proudly embracing her tomboy spirit. This early childhood influence led to her being drawn towards the construction industry, where she spent much of her career valuing hard work, long days, and proving that big results can come from small packages.
Working alongside her brother, and eventually her son, were some of her fondest memories. In the final stretch of her working life, she transitioned into home healthcare where her big heart and empathetic nature were on full display as
she made meaningful and deep-rooted connections with her clients and their families. She devoted many years to volunteer work with the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3990, and other community organizations in Lamar County, but her greatest joys were found in the quieter moments of life spent at her home. She could always be found tending to her garden, curling up with a good book, and surrounding herself with her large, loving family, who affectionately knew her as “Granny Hag.”
Beckie is survived by her sons: Charlie Scaff and wife of Fort Towson, Okla., and Robert Mackey and wife of Luling, Texas; daughters: Shiena McClanahan-Austin of Fort Towson and Katy Mackey and husband of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers: Jimmy Loper, John Loper and Peter Loper; numerous nieces and nephews, along with many other family, friends and loved ones.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
