Funeral services for Wayne Cunningham, of Rufe, Okla., were held Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025 at Rufe Baptist Church.
Wayne Cunningham peacefully passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, surrounded by his family, at the age of 78. He was born on Nov. 10, 1946 in Rufe, Okla., to Burl and Yvetta (Reed) Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale Mason Cunningham and his twin, Dwayne Cunningham.
Wayne was a lifelong resident of Rufe. After graduating from Valliant High School in 1966, he joined the National Guard for six years. Upon his honorary discharge, Wayne married Evelyn Thompson of Swink, Okla., then began working at the Valliant Paper Mill, where he was a welder and maintenance worker for 34 years. Wayne then enjoyed his retirement, messing with his cows and piddling around the house. He enjoyed many things in life, including fishing, Colorado hunting trips, farming, watching sports, and spending time with loved ones. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Cunningham; three sons: Wayne “Dude” Cunningham and wife, David Cunningham and Dakota Cunningham; a bonus son; two granddaughters; bonus grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; bonus great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Guest and husband; two sisters-in-law, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and loved ones.
Interment followed the service at Rufe Cemetery, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
