Prom Mobile coming to a library near you

• Southeast Oklahoma Library System’s Prom Mobile is on the move The Southeastern Oklahoma Library System (SEOLS) 2023 Prom Mobile is coming to a location near you! Thanks to our community members’ generous donations, SEOLS was able to give away 301 prom dresses, 204 accessory items, 37 menswear items, 531 books and audiobooks to 731 area teens in 2022! We want to beat that record! The Prom Mobile — a free mobile prom shop produced by the Southeast Oklahoma Library System — travels to each of the 16 locations in the library system and also visits area high schools as well so young men and women will have the opportunity to try on any of the available formal apparel and take one home free of charge regardless of their income. “We had a great turnout last year and we are so thankful for all the donations,” said Julie Horton, SEOLS Outreach Coordinator.

OSBI called after body found in burning trailer

CHOCTAW COUNTY –– Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department requested OSBI assistance last week after a body was found in a burned trailer. According to reports, the trailer caught fire early Thursday morning, just north of Hugo.

McAlester doctor pleads guilty

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Nelson Onaro, age 61, of McAlester, Okla., entered a guilty plea to count six of a superseding information which charged him with six counts of unlawful distribution and dispensing of a controlled substance in violation of Title 21 U.S.C §§ 841(a) (1) and 841(b)(1)(C), punishable by up to 20 years of imprisonment, a fine up to $1,000,000 or both.

Ombudsman Supervisor’s Corner: Assessment and care planning are key to quality care

Every person in a nursing home has the right to good care, under the law. The law states that the nursing home must help residents “attain or maintain” their highest level of physical, mental and emotional well-being. In order to provide good care, the staff must assess each resident and plan care to support each resident’s lifelong patterns, and their current interests, strengths and needs. When residents and family members are involved in the care planning process, they can provide the staff with information needed to make sure residents get the good care they deserve.

Fort Towson Historic Site plans three days of educational experiences

FORT TOWSON –– The Fort Towson Historic Site will host three days full of educational experiences from March 2–4. On Thursday, March 2, the site will bring history to life with a free event called “Living History Education Day.” It will teach what life was like at Fort Towson more than 180 years ago.
