On Tuesday, May 31, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry lifted the statewide ban on poultry exhibitions, public sales and swap meet bans. May 31 marked 30 days since the last confirmed case of HPAI in Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma legislature adjourned their 2022 regular session sine die (Latin for with no appointed date for resumption.) on Friday, May 31. The state constitution requires legislative regular session end by the last Friday in May. Lawmakers are still in ‘special’ session to consider how to spend the $1.87 billion in federal Coronavirus relief funds (federal tax dollars) under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Reportedly, there are $17.8 billion in requests from Oklahoma agencies, municipalities, and other organizations.

HUGO –– The Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed Scooter’s to Hugo with an official ribbon cutting ceremony during its grand opening Friday morning. Scooter’s, which had a soft open Scooter’s, which had a soft opening just over a month ago, held a grand opening with half-priced drinks ahead of homecoming weekend festivities.

Voter registration and absentee ballot request deadline approaches for June 28 primary

For any Voter who has not yet registered, Friday, June 3, is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the June 28 Choctaw County Primary Election. Persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17.5 years old are eligible to apply for voter registration, however, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.
