McINTOSH COUNTY — As Hugo and Choctaw County citizens continue to mourn the death of a prominent community figure, law enforcement officials in McIntosh County are continuing their investigation into her murder, but releasing very little information about the case.

Drummond to dismiss Native American hunting case

Attorney General Gentner Drummond said last week he will not allow Native American hunters to be prosecuted by the state for hunting in Indian Country without a state permit when they are otherwise acting in accord with duly enacted tribal law. “I will not permit a petulant lame duck governor to further in-jure the State’s relationship with our valuable tribal partners simply because he is unwilling to compact,” he said.

To uphold consumer confidence in beef, enhance herd profitability through better management, safeguard the public image of the beef industry and improve the sale of marketed beef cattle.

Cooler temperatures reduce stress to allow ideal root growth and establishment before cold weather. In fact, roots continue to grow if soil temperatures are above 40 degrees F. Plants installed during the growing season are susceptible to high transpiration rates leading to drying of plant tissues.

The Halloween Festival in Fort Towson

The rain on Saturday may have caused the Halloween Festival in Fort Towson to be cancelled but the Raymond Gary Lake Association of Fort Towson still held their third annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest for the Fort Towson School students on Saturday, Oct. 25! There was an incredible turnout — 50 pumpkins in total! The judges agreed that every single one deserved to win! The competition was so close that the judges decided to split the 8–12 age group into two separate categories just to make it fair. Even then, the decisions were extremely difficult! New law requires drivers to go hands-free

OKLAHOMA CITY –– Beginning Nov. 1, Oklahoma drivers will be prohibited from using handheld cell phones and other electronic communication devices in active school and work zones under House Bill 2263, authored by Rep. Nicole Miller, R-Edmond. The law strengthens Oklahoma’s existing distracted driving rules by limiting handheld phone usage in areas where extra attention behind the wheel is critical. Drivers may still use handsfree features to stay connected safely.
