GRANT — The Hugo Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet for 2025 Thursday at the Choctaw Nation Stage 271 ballroom, lifting up a number of individuals and businesses for their outstanding contributions to the community during the year.

Breah Williams crowned Miss Boswell High

On March 7, Breah Williams was crowned the new Miss Boswell High. She was also awarded the Interview Award for the top interview score. Breah is the 16-year-old junior daughter of Brandis and Annette Williams and Melissa Poore. She is active in FCCLA, cheer, softball and the Choctaw Nation Youth Advisory Board. Her future plans after high school are to attend Murray State College or Langston University to earn a degree in business. She would then like to attend cosmetology school with the hopes of one day opening her own salon. In her free time, Breah enjoys riding horses, doing hair and makeup, dancing, shopping, playing soft-

Senate unanimously approves Boren’s foraging bill

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, won unanimous Senate support for Senate Bill 447 to allow foraging for nuts, edible plants and fungi on state-owned or state-managed property. Boren said she didn’t even know it was against the law until a family member brought the situation to light.

The City of Hugo Fire Department will begin testing fire hydrants the first week of April and continue until all the hydrants have been checked. The Fort Towson Historic Site will host an Elderberry Tonic Workshop on Tuesday, April 8, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Grief/share program coming on April 15

First Baptist Church and Mays Hospice will host a Grief/Share Program starting April 15 at 5:30 p.m. Grief/Share is a video driven support group that helps people who are grieving.
