Hugo Council talks about water issues with Choctaw Nation

HUGO — Members of the Hugo city council held a special meeting Wednesday, March 12 with the public and officials of the Choctaw Nation for the purpose of discussing issues and legal elements involved in a possible sale of water that is surplus to the city’s needs. The meeting was held at the Choctaw Nation’s Community Center on Hugo’s west side.

Oklahomans were left picking up the pieces across 170,000 acres of scorched earth. Gov. Kevin Stitt said one person was killed in a car crash after driving into smoke while disaster officials said an estimated 293 structures were destroyed.

Choctaw Stickball season opens

DURANT — A youth game recently kicked off the 2025 Choctaw spring stickball season and more games and tournaments are planned in the coming months. The Choctaw Cultural Center also will offer several different stickball events.

Buffs edged by Ardmore, 8-7

HUGO — Playing in the twilight game Monday night, the Hugo Buffaloes battled the Ardmore Tigers to an 8-7 extra-inning decision in the Broken Bow Invitational Festival. Except for two unfortunate efforts in the third inning that Ardmore capitalized on to plate six runs, Hugo played a good game and pulled to within one run in the seventh, and battled for three more innings.
