Does your exercise routine consist of occasional yardwork and walks around the neighborhood? Maybe less than that? If so and you’re age 60 or older, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation has a pathway to propel you into a healthier lifestyle. Two OMRF scientists are seeking 75 healthy Oklahoma City-area residents to complete a comprehensive study for people in that age group who do not regularly exercise.

Opioid Abatement Board approves plans to award $29 million in grants

The Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board will award its second round of grants to help combat the state’s opioid epidemic, Attorney General Gentner Drummond has announced. The board voted this week to issue up to $29 million in grant awards to Oklahoma counties, municipalities, public school districts, technology school districts and public trusts later this year.

Teen pleads guilty to stealing firearms

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that J’Quarius J’Vontay Austin, age 18, of Idabel, Okla., entered a guilty plea to one count of stealing firearm from a federal firearms licensed dealer.

Early voting begins Thursday

Early voting for the April 1 municipal elections will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28 at the Choctaw County Election office. The Election office is located on the first floor of the Choctaw County Courthouse, across from the Sheriff’s office.

Circus fans unite in Hugo

Seventy-plus members of the Circus Fans Association of America were in Hugo over the weekend for their first-ever annual convention in “Circus City — USA!” Association President Tim Tegge issued rave reviews for the groups tours of the Endangered Ark Foundation where they were guests of Barbara and Traci Byrd, Kristin Parra and their staff. The group also toured the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve where owners Ryan and Elaine Easley said they were the largest adult group to ever attend their show of exotic Tigers. The Association’s attending members also were present for the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus season debut, under the direction of Trey and Simone Key. Also on their agenda was a guided tour of Showman’s Rest at Hugo’s famous Mount Olivet Cemetery. Attendees were from almost every state in the Union.
