The Historic St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, located in the heart of a once-thriving, predominantly black community approximately 20 miles southwest of Hugo, Okla., will celebrate its 140th church anniversary Sunday, April 23 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Minister Reginald Love, a former member and native of the community who now resides in Stockton, Calif.

Governor calls for resignation of McCurtain County officials

IDABEL — Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has called for the immediate resignation of McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy and District 2 County Commissioner Mark Jennings, after an audio tape was discovered in which the pair were heard to be threatening the lives of McCurtain Gazette owner Bruce Willingham and his son Chris Willingham at a county commission meeting on March 6.

Rattan Rams continue winning streak

RATTAN — Rattan’s big green machine extended its winning streak last week with three backto-back wins over opponents. The Rams started off with a 5-3 win over the Silo Rebels with Logan Smith leading Ram batters with two hits and three RBIs. Also with hits against the Rebels were Ben Ellis, Ethan Clay and Jace May.
HUGO BUFFALO TRYSTUNN FLEEKS cruises down to first base in their Monday game against the Kingston Redskins. The Skins put up a 14-2 win against the Buffs.
