Highly-pathogenic Avian Influenza detected in second flock in Adair County

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) have confirmed a positive case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a second commercial poultry flock in Adair County. HPAI was first detected in a separate Adair County flock on Nov. 30.

Gordon Construction donates equipment to Lineman Program

HUGO – Kiamichi Tech – Hugo recently received a donation from Gordon Construction, a power line contractor out of Stigler, Okla. The equipment donated included a digger truck and two bucket trucks that are essential for various infrastructure projects in which the Kiamichi Tech program prepares future lineworkers. “We are incredibly grateful to Gordon Construction for their generous donation. This equipment will provide our students with hands-on experience and practical skills that are crucial for their success in the field,” said Rebecca Ludlow, Campus Director at Kiamichi Tech – Hugo. “Their support will be used to enhance the training environment and strengthen the skills of our next generation of lineman.”

Choctaw Nation’s Youth Advisory Board celebrates 20 years

Over the 20 years it has been in existence, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) has shown itself to be one of the most successful groups for youth leadership in southeast Oklahoma. Founded by Chief Gary Batton, YAB held its first meeting in May 2004 in Hugo. The group has grown to chapters in 29 locations and has 13 staff positions.
