The Altar on Mount Ebal 1 Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all these commands that I give you today. 2 When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster. 3 Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. 5 Build there an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool on them. 6 Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7 Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord your God. 8 And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up.”

ITC Great Plains conducting aerial patrols of transmission lines

HUGO –– ITC Great Plains will conduct aerial patrols of high-voltage transmission structures and lines throughout its service territory on approximately Oct. 1, weather permitting. Helicopter patrols provide an overall status of the overhead transmission system owned and operated by ITC Great Plains.

Choctaw County holds first Adopt a Cop event

The first annual Choctaw County Adopt a Cop event was held last Saturday during National Thank a Police Officer Day. The event, which was arranged by Thomas and Shannon Ray (pictured at right), is a way for the community to show their appreciation for local law enforcement officials. The officers were listed and then adopted by community members for $45, which was then used to buy something they will be able to use in their units and on the job.

HUGO –– Action was taken last Tuesday by the Hugo city council to accept the collective bargaining agreement between the city of Hugo and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. This has been an ongoing discussion for several months.

Oklahoma deer hunters may have heard about Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) afflicting deer and elk in other states. CWD is a neurological disease that affects the brains of deer, elk, moose, and other members of the deer family, creating holes that resemble those in sponges. It is always fatal to the animal, and no treatment or vaccine against CWD exists at this time. CWD has been confirmed in wild deer and/or elk in Oklahoma and surrounding states including Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas.
