Funding available to expand meat, poultry processing options

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the availability of up to $125 million through two new grant programs that will create more options for meat and poultry farmers by investing in independent, local meat and poultry processing projects that increase competition and enhance the resiliency of the food supply chain.

Rattan woman loses life after Pushmataha County crash

PUSHMATAHA COUNTY –– A Rattan, Okla., woman lost her life last Saturday after an unknown medical incident caused her to crash her vehicle. According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jennifer Self, 25, was southbound on County Road 1931 and due to an unknown medical incident, she departed the roadway to the right and struck a tree.

• Swink Volunteer Fire Department Receives $39,496 grant from the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation The Swink Volunteer Fire Department announced it has received a $39,496 Community Grant from the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation. The grant will be used to fund Project Protection, which will allow the Swink Volunteer Fire Department to purchase new Bunker Gear, Wildlife Gear, AED, and Mobilize Comprehensive Trauma Kit which will enable the Swink Volunteer Fire Department to enhance the quality of life for rural citizens and communities in Oklahoma.

Youth Services honored with Excellence award

Contributing Writer Youth Services for Choctaw, Pushmataha and McCurtain Counties won an Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence Award Saturday night. Members of the nonprofit traveled to Tulsa over the weekend to be present for the ONE Awards, which are hosted by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits.
