Iris Garden Club has Christmas progressive dinner

The Iris Garden Club of Hugo gathered on Dec. 13 for their annual Christmas celebration. The group met at the Rose Cottage (Jerry and Harolynn Wofford’s) for appetizers and drinks. The porch was decorated with lights, poinsettias and pinecones.

We had difficulties when we were growing up in Martin County, Ken., but overall, we thought we were doing okay. President Lyndon Johnson came to Inez, Ken., in 1964 to let us know we weren’t doing very well. He began his campaign in our community and we became the poster child for American poverty.

KIAMICHI TECH-HUGO students hosted a canned food drive in an effort to alleviate hunger during the Christmas season. Students collected more than 2,000 pounds of nonperishable food items.
