The Office of Admissions and Recruitment is excited to begin a new recruitment cycle with the continued focus on enrolling bright and diverse First Time in College and transfer students at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Though we’re still meeting and greeting the newest members of the Savage Storm family, it’s time to begin looking ahead to fall 2022.

It’s almost Fair time in Choctaw County! The 114th annual Choctaw County Fair, “Barn in the U.S.A.,” is scheduled for next week at the Agriplex in Hugo. Fair entries and booth setup will begin on Tuesday, Sept.

Letha Loftin (right), of Hugo, was this week’s winner of the Hugo News Football Contest after choosing 14 out of 19 games correctly. Loftin guessed closest (311) to the Hugo Buffaloes’ total offense figure (390) to edge out Lindy Loftin. Above, Loftin collects the $50 weekly prize from Claudia Vertiz of First United Bank, where she obtained her winning entry blank. Sample ballots are now available for the Sept. 14 Hugo and Valliant School bond special election. Voters can download a sample ballot using the State Election Board’s OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or pickup a copy at the Choctaw County Election Board during normal business hours.

Hot weather is more likely to cause health problems in older adults than in younger ones. About 200 Americans die of health problems caused by high heat and humidity every year. And most of them are 50 or older.
