Governor Stitt declares Deaf Awareness Week in Oklahoma

Governor Kevin Stitt has officially declared September 20-26 as Deaf Awareness Week in Oklahoma. “The purpose of Deaf Awareness Week is to increase public awareness of Deaf culture, heritage and American Sign Language, which are unique to deaf people,” Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program Manager David Hankinson said.

OKDHS offices moving to by appointment only visits

Effective last week, all visits to Oklahoma Human Services (OKDHS) offices will be by appointment only to protect the health and safety of the agency’s customers and workforce. If customers cannot be served online at OKDHSLive.org or OKBenefits.org, or have difficulty with online applications, they can call 405.522.5050 for assistance or to schedule an appointment.

THE HUGO AREA CHAMBER of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon to celebrate the Red Star’s first anniversary under new ownership. Owners Jennifer and Scott Moore opened the doors of the Red Star the second weekend of September 2020, and have since upgraded the facilities to include a fun outdoor area for entertaining. Behind the bar, you’ll find a fenced-in area with shaded seating and corn hole boards. Red Star owner Jennifer Moore cuts the ribbon alongside her husband, Scott, members of the Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce and Red Star employees Thursday afternoon. Savage named OML Woman of the Year

HUGO CITY MANAGER, Leah Savage was recognized during the Oklahoma Municipal League Conference last week in Oklahoma City. Savage was named OML 2021 Woman of the Year for cities under 5,000. “I am so thankful and so honored,” she said. “What a privilege it is for me to be able to serve the city of Hugo.”
