WILBURTON –– The Oklahoma Agriculture Enhancement and Diversification Board recently awarded Eastern Oklahoma State College a $600,000 grant to fund renovations and purchase new equipment for the college’s meat processing facility. The State of Oklahoma received 196 applications for the $10 million available in grant funding.

LONGTIME CHOCTAW COUNTY resident Eddie Vandergriff was awakened by a passer-by in the early morning of Aug. 23 just in time to escape his burning home located west of Hugo on Hollis Roberts Road. Vandergriff was not able to save any of his personal belongings and escaped only with the clothes he was wearing, but fortunately suffered no physical injury. His home was a total loss.

Little Dixie Community Action Agency, Inc. is proud to announce and welcome Lindsey Miller as the newest Associate Director. Miller will be responsible for administering programs operated by the agency so that a smoothly functioning organization is maintained within the framework of the budget and interest of participating agencies. HUGO — The Choctaw County election office has confirmed that during a Thursday recount of the ballots in the State Sen. Dist. 5 race against George Burns and Justin Jackson, there were no changes to the original election results.

A collective total of 46 linemen representing eight member-systems from Oklahoma’s electric cooperatives are providing mutual aid assistance and storm damage restoration to two electric cooperatives in Louisiana and one electric cooperative in Texas following Hurricane Laura. The record-breaking storm, which was later downgraded to a tropical depression, roared onto the Louisiana coastline early Aug. 27 as a Category 4 storm, bringing 150-mph winds and causing destruction in its path. The storm also impacted portions of Texas and Arkansas.

On Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, Kathryn “Kay” Stone Horn passed away at the age of 89.
