Boswell School celebrates Veterans Day

Veterans Day is our federal holiday in the United States observed every year on Nov. 11, to honor the military veterans, people who have served in the US Armed Forces. We observe this day and salute our heroes. Boswell’s local VFW, (Veterans of Foreign Wars) the organization of US war veterans, who as military service members fought in wars, campaigns and expeditions on foreign land, water or airspace coordinated an assembly at Boswell Public School in the gym last Thursday morning. The Boswell Post 1048 District 4 organized the Veterans Day event.

CATHY STANFIELD (left), of Hugo, was this week’s winner of the Hugo News Football Contest after choosing 15 out of 19 games correctly. Stanfield guessed closest (427) to the OU Sooners’ total offense figure (285) to edge out J.J. Johnson. Above, Stanfield collects the $50 weekly prize from Ernest McCarty of Security First National Bank, where she obtained her winning entry blank. Hugo Schools adopt new gifted and talented policy and procedures

The Hugo board of education met in regular session on Nov. 8 to handle the monthly legislative business of the district. In the administrative reports, the board was informed about several events that took place since the October board meeting. A meeting at the school was held on Oct. 15 with the City of Hugo and ODOT to discuss ways to improve safety along the Jake Pullen Bypass near Hugo Elementary.

October holds highest number of tornadoes since 1895

Did you know that we’ve already had 28 tornadoes during October, the highest total in Oklahoma since records began in 1895? Did you know that’s more tornadoes than the rest of the year combined (Jan.-Sept. total, 25)? Did you know that 2021 has two more months to go, and we should be afraid? Very afraid? Well, all we really have to fear is fear itself, but also tornadoes, large hail and severe winds, apparently.
