It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved Texan, a devoted brother and uncle, and a dedicated servant of God. Billy was called to his eternal rest on Oct. 7, 2023, at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Billy was born on June 22, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas, to Billy Jack and Delores Juanita (Godsey) Birdwell. His life was a testament to the values and virtues instilled in him during his years at the Fort Worth Baptist Seminary. He graduated from the seminary with a profound understanding of faith, compassion and the teachings of the Lord. His unwavering commitment to his faith was a guiding light that illuminated the lives of all who crossed his path.

An integral part of Billy’s life was his dedicated service to the oil industry. He was a true Texan through and through and for many years, he worked behind the wheel of big rigs, helping to fuel the energy needs of our great state. His resilience, hard work and strong sense of responsibility endeared him to colleagues and friends alike. Billy was a man of grit and determination, qualities that were undoubtedly shaped by the rugged landscape and demanding work of the oil industry.

One of the most precious aspects of Billy’s life was his profound bond with his siblings. He cherished the time spent with his brothers and sisters, and their closeness was a source of joy and strength for the entire family. Billy is survived by his siblings: Jean McIntosh of California, David Birdwell, Judy Rolfing, Daniel Birdwell, Rebecca (Birdwell) Maynard all of Hugo, Okla.; a host of nieces and nephews as well as numerous extended family. They shared countless stories, laughter, and at times, tears, but the unbreakable bond they held was a testament to the enduring power of family love.

His life was marked by kindness, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to God, family and work. He was a man of deep faith and enduring love, who truly embodied the Texan spirit of resilience and unity.

A private burial took place in the Frogville Community Cemetery just north of Hwy. 109 and the Borden milk truck in southern Choctaw County, close to the Red River and Texas as possible.

May his soul rest in eternal peace and may the cherished memories of his life provide comfort and strength to all those who loved him.

Arrangements were under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
