LaQuela Joyce (Sturgeon) Goodwin

Graveside services for LaQuela Joyce (Sturgeon) Goodwin, of Hugo, Okla., were held Monday, Jan. 12, 2026 at Antlers City Cemetery in Antlers, Okla. LaQuela passed away Jan. 7, 2026, at the age of 90.

LaQuela Joyce (Sturgeon) Goodwin was born on March 18, 1935 in Hugo, the daughter of Earl Sturgeon and Bessie (Goodgine) Sturgeon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Goodwin and sister, Grace Goodwin.

Joyce was a lifelong resident of the Messer area. She married her beloved husband, Howard Eugene Goodwin in Lockney, Texas. In her younger days she enjoyed going dancing with her sister, Grace. She enjoyed baking cakes and pies, decorating and was very crafty –– she especially enjoyed painting rocks. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Joyce’s faith in God was very important to her, and she lived her life serving her Lord, Jesus Christ. She made it her goal in life to share her faith with her son and anyone else she met.

Joyce is survived by son, Mike Goodwin and wife of Talihina, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, along with a host of family friends and loved ones.

Services were under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
