Phillip Farris Milam
Phillip Farris Milam, known to all as Phil, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at the age of 68 in Ardmore, Okla. Born on Feb. 26, 1957 in Boswell, Okla., Phil lived a life devoted to his family and the simple pleasures of life.
Phil is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Lajauana Milam; his father, Marvin J. Milam; his mother, Haskell L. Milam, and his beloved daughter, Lynnetta Houston. He is survived by his daughter, Ladonna McQuistion and husband, Wayne of Ardmore; his son, Chris Houston and wife, Daryl of Stigler, Okla.; and his adoring grandchildren: Preston Hooks, Trista Houston, Cambrie Houston, Cooper Houston, Chazedyn “Chito” Houston, Madalynn “Maddie” Houston, Conner McQuistion, Jimmy McQuistion.
Phil was a graduate of Boswell High School, “Class of 75.” After graduation Phil worked on the Bean Farm with his cousin Tuck. He also worked at Fords Grocery Store, a place that would change his life forever, as it was there, he met the love of his life, Lajauana.
Phil dedicated 20 years of service as a correctional officer at Mack Alford Correctional Center, retiring early due to his health. Many may not know but Phil was a 23-year heart transplant patient.
Phil’s hobbies were as down-to-earth as he was. In the summers he enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. Deer season was his favorite time of the year, if you never experienced a Milam Family and Friends Deer camp you are missing out or you may consider yourself lucky. Phil was a collector of knives and guns, and he loved to talk about them and show them off. Later in life when the grandkids came along, he “papa and granny “both loved spending time with and spoiling them all rotten. Those who knew Phil would describe him with words such as respectful, passionate, hardworking, and loving. Phil lived a full life focused on what mattered most –– family, work and the hobbies he loved.
Phil’s memory will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him, and his legacy of strong love and kindness will live on through his family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel at 216 East Jackson Street, Hugo.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2025 at Springs Chapel Cemetery in Hugo, under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
