Tanner Trent named Region Six ‘Coach of the Year!’

Hugo News Sports Middle School head coach and varsity assistant coach Tanner Trent was named Junior High Coach of the Year for region six by the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association last week. Athletic director Darnell Shanklin nominated Trent for the award, saying Trent is deserving of the recognition after three years of hard work he’s put into the program.

RATTAN — The Rattan Rams spanked the Calumet Chieftains Saturday with a massive 11-1 decision with Logan Smith holding the Chieftains to only four hits and a single run on 103 pitches. Zion Bills signs letter to play basketball for Lyon College

Hugo senior Zion Bills signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Lyon College on Monday afternoon. Bills made the decision to sign with Lyon, which is in Batesville, Ark., based on a gut feeling that it’s the right fit for her. “I chose Lyon because it’s the school that kept my interest,” Bills said. “Everything went well, and I didn’t have to second guess it.”
