Edward Johnson, of Hugo, was this week’s winner of the Hugo News Football Contest after choosing 14 out of 18 games correctly. Johnson guessed closest (400) to the OU Sooners’ total yardage (406) to beat out Bobby Yandell, Tim Loftin, David Prickett and Cathy Stanfield. Johnson will collect the $50 weekly prize from First United Bank, where he obtained his winning entry blank. A picture will be taken for next week’s Hugo News. Choctaw County EMS sends crew to Florida to assist with hurricane aftermath

OKLAHOMA CITY – State legislators from southeastern Oklahoma praised the efforts of local emergency medical service workers currently assisting with the Hurricane Milton response in Florida. Crews from Bryan County Emergency Medical Services, Choctaw County Ambulance Authority, Johnston County Emergency Medical Services, Marshall County Emergency Medical Services, Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service and Oklahoma Gas & Electric left Sunday, Oct.
