Grief has always had a way of bringing people together, and last week, a day after the news broke, the Hugo High School Class of 2014 was reunited by tragedy. In a Facebook group chat, we shared in the initial shock and heartbreak of losing our classmate and friend, Amaney Jackson.

TVSHKA HOMMA — The 2023 Choctaw Labor Day Festival will offer three days of faith, family, and cultural activities for all ages. The annual event, held at Tvshka Homma on the grounds of the historic Choctaw Capitol, is southeastern Oklahoma’s largest gathering. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) will host the festival on Friday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Sept. 3.

FORT TOWSON — On Sat., July 22, from 1-3 p.m., the Choctaw Nation’s “Growing Hope” program will be highlighted by the Fort Towson Historic Site. The program focuses on heirloom seeds that came through the Trail of Tears by the Choctaw people when they were forcibly removed to the state.
