ANTLERS –– Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s (CNO) Outreach Services Program will host a run and walk to help bring awareness to the issue of violence against Native American women. The 2nd Annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women 5K Run and 1 Mile Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 13 at the Choctaw Community Center, 302 SW O St. in Antlers. Race day registration is available from 6:30 - 7 a.m. at the nearby CNO Wellness Center.

Monarch caterpillars very hungry across Oklahoma

• Late spring, late milkweed, add challenges for iconic species Some very hungry monarch caterpillars may be struggling to find a bite in Oklahoma these days. The big, iconic orange and black butterflies listed under the federal Endangered Species Act as “warranted but precluded at this time by higher priority listing actions” and recently listed as endangered on The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s “red list,” are in a pinch this year in Oklahoma.

derailment that occurred Sunday in Hugo has caused traffic delays on the west side of town. Detour signs are in place, but allow extra time for travel. A cause for the derailment has not yet been released but at press time Tuesday, clean up efforts were underway and crews were working hard to get streets clear and tracks repaired.

Wreck leads to death of Rattan man

PUSHMATAHA COUNTY –– A Rattan, Okla., man passed away Friday after a vehicle collision with a semi, approximately eight miles north of Rattan. According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, John Ingersoll, 81, was southbound on Cloudy Road when he struck the rearend of a semi driven by Roy Bates, 43 of Antlers, Okla., who was also traveling southbound.

HUGO –– After each election of the Hugo city council, a reorganization of the board occurs at the following meeting. At last Tuesday’s meeting, a motion and a second resulted in Ernest McCarty being reappointed as Hugo Mayor.

Choctaw Nation to recognize Missing, Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day

• May 5 event to provide information, warning signs, help DURANT –– Nationally, May 5 has been proclaimed “Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day.” To help bring attention and assistance to missing and murdered indigenous women an outdoor gathering will be held Friday, May 5, noon-2 p.m. at the Choctaw Nation Headquarters Amphitheater, 1802 Chukka Hina in Durant.

Is the Oath of Office important or just a mere formality? Article VI of the Constitution says that (a) the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and (b) judicial officers (among others) are under Oath to support the Constitution. So what are the logical implications of the foregoing? That when an act of Congress violates the Constitution and the issue is brought before a court in a lawsuit, it is the sworn duty of the Court to side with the Constitution and against Congress.
