Authorities round up sex offenders who failed to register

CHOCTAW COUNTY –– Several arrests were made over the weekend, as a number of sex offenders were arrested for non-compliance with sex offender registration requirements. The arrests were a part of a sex offender compliance operation led by the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department.

OMRF receives $2.1 million to study immune system

The National Institutes of Health has awarded an Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation scientist $2.1 million to better understand the metabolism of T cells, a critical component of our immune system. With the fiveyear grant, OMRF scientist Meng Zhao, Ph.D., will study the role mitochondria — the driver for energy and metabolism in cells — plays in T cells, one of the white blood cells of the immune system.

Full slate of activities planned at Fort Towson Historic Site for new year

FORT TOWSON –– Staff at the Fort Towson Historic Site are busily preparing for the full slate of activities and events scheduled for 2023. Opportunities for learning will be plentiful, with weekend activities on the second, third and fourth Saturdays of each month beginning in February. Special events throughout the year will include an 1840s education day and encampment, a history day camp for kids, a cinnamon roll social, Doaksville candlelight tours and Christmas at the Fort.

The Southeast Oklahoma Library System (SEOLS) held a juried Graphic Novel writing contest in October for all ages. The contest was open to anyone interested in participating. Each of the winners will have their work cataloged and available in their home library shelves for patrons to enjoy!
