Sustainable agriculture history project now available as podcast

Interviews focused on the history of sustainable agriculture have been turned into a limited podcast series, “Sustainable Agriculture Policy with Ron Kroese.” The interviews are a part of an oral history archive documenting the development and evolution of public policies to advance sustainable and organic agriculture going back to the 1970s. More than 40 women and men featured are among the key leaders and advocates who played significant roles in devising and promoting the laws and government programs that continue to undergird efforts to achieve a sustainable farming and food system in the U.S.

Choctaw member appointed to USDA committee

DURANT –– Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack selected 12 members to serve on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) inaugural Secretary’s Advisory Committee for Urban Agriculture.

A Car Seat Checkup event, sponsored by Safe Kids Tulsa Area, The Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis, Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, LIFT Healthy Start, Choctaw County Coalition and State Farm, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at 502 W. Duke St. in Hugo. Nationally certified technicians will be onsite to show caregivers how to properly install car seats and check those already installed. A limited number of car seats will be available.

The highest chance of Frozen precipitation this week will come in the form of rain, sleet and snow Thursday night and Friday with low temperatures near 20 by Saturday morning. Ice accumulation is possible Thursday night that could impact travel. A rapid warming trend will kick in and we will hit 48 on Saturday afternoon and near 68 on Sunday with sunshine for both days.
