Hugo News Sports The Buffaloes fell to Kingston after a slow start they weren’t able to battle back from on Monday afternoon. It would take Hugo four innings before they could get on the board, with Maliki Gillean and Landon Lemmons making it across home plate.

RATTAN — Rattan’s big green machine extended its winning streak last week with three backto-back wins over opponents. The Rams started off with a 5-3 win over the Silo Rebels with Logan Smith leading Ram batters with two hits and three RBIs. Also with hits against the Rebels were Ben Ellis, Ethan Clay and Jace May.

Contributing Writer Football and basketball seasons may be over for Hugo, but the athletes who compete in both sports are still staying busy. A number of Hugo athletes have hit the road on the weekends to travel to camps and tournaments, keeping their stamina high and improving their skills in between seasons.

RATTAN — Rattan’s Carson Bailey threw a three-hit shutout last week against the Boswell Scorpions on the Rams’ home field. Bailey offered 77 pitches, fanning five batters and walking none through five innings of play.

Contributing Writer The Hugo Public School Board terminated assistant varsity boys basketball coach Demontre Akins after a nearly three-hour due process hearing last week. The firing resulted from an altercation between Akins and two high school students after a basketball game in February, which was caught on camera and witnessed by multiple students and school officials.

BOSWELL — The Boswell Scorpions recently booked three wins in four games with victories coming over Rock Creek (11-2), Kremlin Hillsdale (6-0), Mulhall Orlando Panthers (9-3) and a loss versus Pleasantvale (5-1).
