HUGO –– Choctaw County EMS announces the donation of a 2022 ambulance to Freedom Volunteer EMS Service in support of rural emergency medical services and continued access to quality prehospi‑tal care for the citizens of Freedom, Okla., and the surrounding communities.

Paris Regional Health is announc‑es that Dr. Donald Wikoff, Medical Director of the Par‑is Regional Health Wound Care Center, has been recognized with a 2025 Healog‑ics FIND.

Robert Kelley, Hugo High School class of 1963, recently made a $25,000 donation to the Choctaw County Library board, going above matching fundraising efforts by the board in the amount of $11,000. According to board chairman Jerry Beach, with the library being a 501(c)3, it relies heavily on donations.

Hugo PRCA Rodeo Royalty Contestants include: Queen Contestants • Shaelynn Hokett is from Cloudy, Okla., and is a senior at Rattan High School. She is the daughter of Lonnie and Pattie Hokett and the granddaughter of Kim and Tony Dunlap, as well as Lonie and Revonda Hokett.

The Kelley Foundation was established by Robert and Judy Kelley and their daughter Marla. The Kelleys are native Oklahomans and longtime residents of Southern Oklahoma.

HUGO — The Choctaw County Board of County Commissioners has approved a temporary moratorium on the development, permitting and construction of data centers within the county. The resolution, approved May 18, 2026, establishes a 365-day pause on the acceptance, processing, approval or issuance of permits and applications related to new data centers, server farms, cloud-computing facilities, cryptocurrency mining operations and other similar high-density computing installations.

For more than six decades, the Hugo Rodeo has carried on a rich tradition deeply rooted in southeastern Oklahoma’s western heritage. While rodeo activities in Hugo date back long before 1961, that year marked a turning point when local community leaders joined forces with professional cowboys from the area to affiliate with the Rodeo Cowboys Association (RCA), now known as the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

One of Hugo’s longest-standing traditions will ride back into town later this month as the 64th Hugo PRCA Rodeo takes place Friday and Saturday, May 29-30, 2026 at the Todd Whatley-Lige Hammock Memorial Arena in Hugo.
