Alexia Rouse, Brielle Robinson, and Cameron Moore received scholarships from the Choctaw County Democratic Party at Soper’s Baccalaureate ceremony on Sunday. Robinson won first place in their essay contest about Human Rights and Eleanor Roosevelt.

BEGGS — The Hugo Buffalo baseball team battled gallantly last week at the Regional Tournament hosted at Beggs. The Buffaloes lost in their opening game to the host team, 11-1 even though they managed six hits in the game.

ALEX HIGH SCHOOL — Two Hugo High School track team members earned invitation to the upcoming State 3A meet in Catoosa Saturday by virtue of their outstanding performances at last week’s Regional track meet at Alex.

Property tax bills still undecided

With property taxes routinely getting hiked annually in all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties, more and more senior citizens are screaming about excessive tax levies. In response to those complaints, several bills have been introduced in the current 2026 Oklahoma legislative session to place a cap on property taxes assessed on seniors.

ODOT announces bid award for Lake Texoma Roosevelt Bridge

A Texas-based construction company, Zachry Construction Corporation is entering the Oklahoma market and was selected by ODOT to deliver the US-70 Roosevelt Bridge replacement project under a modified progressive design-build contract. This project will be delivered by Zachry Construction Corporation/Traylor Bros., Inc. (JV).

Choctaw Travel Plaza launches scholarship fund for tribal members

• Each purchase of collectible cup goes toward scholarships Choctaw Travel Plazas has launched its first ever scholarship fund, which will allow community members to donate toward local tribal member scholarships by purchasing a commemorative 32-ounce cup at any Travel Plaza across the reservation. Choctaw Travel Plazas partnered with Coca-Cola to seed the fund, which will help send local students to college or trade school.

• Works by artists from 12 districts and beyond coming to Choctaw Cultural Center A new exhibition at the Choctaw Cultural Center will feature 13 experienced artists representing each of the 12 districts of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and one tribal artist from outside the reservation of southeast Oklahoma. Their works celebrate both traditional and contemporary artistic practices.
