Local World War II Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient, James “JB” Hamill celebrated his 100th birthday last week with a party celebration at Elmbrook, where he has been a resident for the past 13 years. His family and friends joined him for the celebration.

The Fort Towson 40th annual Homecoming celebration begins this weekend. The fun starts on Thursday afternoon with a ribbon cutting and open house at the Fort Towson Depot Steakhouse, then gears up in full on Friday morning with the 7 a.m.

The class came together to donate $10,000 to Hugo Public Schools, awarding the check to superintendent Cory Smith and high school principal Chance Baker (pictured top right corner).

Tobacco Stops With Me, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), encourages all Oklahomans to reflect on the harms of tobacco and recommit to supporting tobacco-free environments in honor of World No Tobacco Day. The global event will be observed on Wednesday, May 31.

OMRF Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Judith James, M.D., Ph.D., has been named a member of the 2023 class of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Considered among the highest honors in the state, James is the first woman from OMRF and just the third scientist in the foundation’s 76-year history to be selected for induction into the hall of fame.
